BASICS CHB & IMPORTING
COURSE is designed for those individuals who are interested in gaining
basic knowledge of Customshouse brokerage and importing into the
United States. The course explains in detail how to import commodities
from the original financial negotiation to Customs recordkeeping
requirements. Emphasis is placed on Customs and Border Protection
requirements and practical procedural applications. An introduction to
the Customs Regulations and Harmonized Tariff Schedule is included.
Additional assignments are presented for those who are considering
customs brokerage as a career or who want to begin the process of
gaining knowledge for the licensing exam. Classes are held in the
Socratic method. The instructor and the students ask and answer
questions. The ultimate goal is for the student to understand the
requirements of Customs. Prior to each class, students complete
reading assignments from the Leaphart class textbook and the U.S.
Customs “Importing into the United States” publication. Additional
reading assignments from the Customs Regulations and introductions to
different parts of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule will provide
students with a greater foundation for the CHB Broker Exam Prep Course
given each Spring & Fall. After reading the assignments, the student
completes a timed examination. Each class begins with a review of
questions on the reading material. This is followed by a timed quiz,
discussion and more Q+A. Each student will gain a strong understanding
of INCO terms, entry, valuation methods, classification rules and
marking requirements. |
