Oakland A's Project Will Put Oakland Taxpayers on the Hook for Millions $$$

East Oakland Stadium Alliance

Frustration continues to mount for Oakland residents, as the city contemplates additional measures to further put taxpayers at risk to make up for rising cost gaps. Paul Cobb’s op-ed in the Oakland Post epitomizes this frustration, particularly after the bad deals in the city’s past: “This situation is worse than the Raiders debacle at the Oakland Coliseum. You would think that once burned, the City would make sure that would not happen again.” Cobb continued by pointing out that Oaklanders have continued to be led astray by the A’s and city staff: “This process has been a disaster. Promises made have been reneged on. Assurances that no public funds would be used, and that the City would not have risks turned out to be false. Oakland voters demanded the right to be heard on whether public finds should be spent, but they were turned down.” Rather than Councilmembers continuing to be shoehorned down the path toward Howard Terminal’s completion, Cobb exclaimed, “It is time to Just Say No!”
